Hi All,

I prepared and initialized the topic thread of NCR 615 Century,
because it had been so complicated pages NCR 315
by mixing our talks related to NCR 615 Century.

Will you discuss about our versatile computer: NCR 615?
Next year, he will be 4 decades old since his debut to the market in 1968.
He caused us to have a systems mind and get the base to the total solution business.

I remember the standard commonality of palm sized circuit board.
I noticed the strategy of Century computer marketing by easier mass production
when field engineers were maintaining.
And I noticed the well designed software overlays through PSOA, SSOA TSOA memory area
with 0E00Hex basement for the user program.

In 1969 I have studyed the B1 memory resident executive list that Mr. Akiyama introduced
the algolism with the machine command vs. the mnemonic instruction of NEAT/3 Level II
through analyzing of dumped memory contents of NCR Century 100
at the show room of NCR Japan Head office in Tokyo.

I could find out the H'20 IO-set (? might-be) command routine for seting up the index regsters
to the file table, the buffer table and area.
Yes, I should not forget the I/O-Dispatch and ISR routines, because those are the miracle
management procedure for us as freshmen of systems analist babies.
Like I could understand the 3rd generation computer architecture
through the B1 resident executive shown by Mr. Akiyama,
almost SE member of NCR Japan would have known the RASIS (RASUI in NCR Engineering Standard)
based software concept.

I made a testing program, in a single 80 columns punched card boot, by Hexadecimal codes
with the NCR card punch typer.
The program checked the wrong memory array of short rods in NCR 615 main bay.
It was very supportable for field engineers to check 'ME' portion.
During these supporting, freshmen were well trained to get an intellectual passport
to watch whole systems of NCR 615 compornents.

Let's talk together our passions through experience of NCR 615 Century.

This is an artists rendition of the 615-350 system that Amnon Ben-Yehuda gave to me March 5, 1973.  His exact note is below.

"Jim, The enclosed photograph is an artists rendition of the forthcoming Century 350 installation at the Sumitomo Bank in Osaka, consisting of three Century 350III systems.  The layout and site details are based on actual installation plans".


The photo was a little larger than my scanner would accommodate, so it is cut off at the edges.

Yes, I have a photo that NCR Japan took for the press release in 1975, as attached.
Really artifacts of NCR state-of-the-art engineering in early 1970s are running there.

The TOX development team could confirm the dynamism of processing that
Dr. John von Neumann had encouraged Mr. Donald E. Eckdahl during their discussion in 1950,
through the combination with hardware and software,
although we should not forget the evolution of communication networks.

Sumitomo Bank had gotten the large scale distributed computer systems that
provided the reliable feature by Ben-Yehuda group and the efficient performance with Akiyama TOX group.

Hi, all!
It's a typhoon in Tokyo today evening.
I am studying how to figure the sequence chart of software procedure into the regular expression.
It's a tough job for me.
I am remembering the encouragement by the online communication driver (OCD) for C-621-101
communication multiplexer unit.
If my memory is correct, initially the OCD software had been developed and programmed
by the people of Hawthorne factory in late 1960s.
When I put a parameter into the NEXTDO card or the NEAT/3 compiler specification sheet in order to
include the OCD source codes under the USEIF statement, the compiler generate the table-driven OCD
program into my application task program.
I used to find the copy right signature '... Hilcy' (? I soppose if my memory is correct.)
I used to study the algorism of his idea in order to modify the source for the Japanese proper teletype-writer.
His program was a very complex for me as a freshman. However I learned very much the state-driven procedure algorism.
Now I am teaching the state-driven reactive processing in the micro-processing.
I am appreciated of Hilcy programming technique.
Now I am studying the method to generate the state transfer diagram from the sequence chart automatically
like SPUR and OPUR procedure of NEAT/3.
I need much knowledge and understanding of the mathematics.
It's tough for me as a 62 years old man. But I have to complete my idea for the next generation engineer.

If anyone interest, will you tell me your impression or idea?

Hi! all,

  Good morning and good evening from Osaka, Japan.
Now, I am in my business trip and I am staying in a hotel of Osaka where is located near the Sumitomo Bank's computer center building and also is very closed to the KURABO head office where I had installed the tele-printer based OCD (Online Communication Driver) that I modified for the data gathering online system on the C-615-200 computer with 128Kbytes memory in 1971.

I am now designing the MMU (memory management unit) for the 16bits micro CPU, in order to rebuild the TOX-II-like realtime processing kernel in our memorial year 2008 when I would like to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Century birth.
I attached the basic block diagram of the MMU that I am designing.
Although I am not a professional of the digital hardware matter, I am challenging to design the MMU that is must for the bahavior of TOX-II operating procedure.
I would like to try my best.

If you find any concerning point, please let me notice.
